Forks are projects that use base software to increase resources or resuscitate discontinued software. A good example of fork is LibreOffice which took over the succession of OpenOffice.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Blender updates usually do not pay much attention to the BGE and for reasons like the one that pops up forks like the UPBGE. This article will present some special features that UPBGE offers.<\/p>\n<h1>1. Paralax Mapping<\/h1>\n<p>Also known as <strong>virtual displacement mapping<\/strong>, it is an improved form of normal mapping that renders texture depth more realistically.<\/p>\n<p>In UPBGE, this option exists in texture properties. To make it work, you must use a normal map texture with the <strong>alpha channel<\/strong> as the depth of the parallax map. Sub Surface Scattering (SSS)<\/h1>\n<p>This type of shading renders volumetric penetrability of light, in other words, when your hand covers the light of a flashlight, the <strong>SSS<\/strong> is like the reddish inner of the hand you see.<\/p>\n<p>To use the SSS on the object, simply go to the <strong>material properties<\/strong> and enable the <strong>Subsurface Scattering<\/strong> option. So just choose <strong>Scale<\/strong> and <strong>RGB<\/strong> of SSS.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-801\" src=\"http:\/\/cgepic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/upbge-sss.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>3.\u00a0Sky Background Render<\/h1>\n<p>The sky background is one of the features lacking in BGE, where the only alternatives would be to use scripts or improvise an HDRI textured sphere. \u00af\\_(\u30c4)_\/\u00af<\/p>\n<p>In short, UPBGE offers this feature in <strong>World&#8217;s<\/strong> texture properties, so you can easily use <strong>HDRI<\/strong> images. For recommendation, in the <strong>Mapping<\/strong> field change the <strong>Coordinates<\/strong> to <strong>Equirectangular<\/strong>, then in the <strong>Influence<\/strong> field uncheck the Blend and activate <strong>Horizon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-793\" src=\"http:\/\/cgepic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/upbge-bgw.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not yet finished, you need to enable the <strong>Real Sky<\/strong> option on <strong>World properties<\/strong>. Wire Materials<\/h1>\n<p>This is kind of material that is rendered in wireframe format, however, it is not a simple wireframe as it also gets shadows and illumination like any shading.<\/p>\n<p>To use Wire Materials, go to <strong>Materials<\/strong> properties and a row of buttons where you see <strong>Surface<\/strong> first, choose <strong>Wire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-802\" src=\"http:\/\/cgepic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/upbge-wireframe.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<h1>6. Real-Time Reflection Cubemap<\/h1>\n<p>This is a type of texturing of material that results in an effect that reflects the elements of the environment, including moving objects.<\/p>\n<p>To use this texture, first change the texture <strong>type<\/strong> to <strong>Environment Map<\/strong>, then in the <strong>Environment Map<\/strong> field, choose the <strong>Realtime<\/strong> type, then create a new image by clicking <strong>New<\/strong>. Do not worry about the resolution, after creating a new image, click In <strong>Resize<\/strong> for the program to calculate the correct size of the texture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-794\" src=\"http:\/\/cgepic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/upbge-cubemap.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then for a flat mirror, it would not be ideal to use a cubemap, but rather the next feature of the article.<\/p>\n<h1>7. Who knows later this fork offers native features like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R_L-_oGTbqw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SSAO<\/a>, DoF, tools for online mode, or even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3JUYFGkmE1Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Area Lights<\/a>?
